My Pokémon Journey - Fiction

 My First Fanfic:

It's Monday, the beginning of the week and the first day of school, after a good weekend peacefully at home. Most kids are excited to go back to meet their friends and play with everyone while learning interesting subjects about the world and especially about Pokémon, meanwhile, our protagonist is a little upset over having to once again join a social situation where she just feels left out. Little Gloria has some trouble interacting with other kids, it isn't as if she doesn't want to make friends, but she simply is too afraid to say something as simple as a hi.

Deep down she wishes she could be like her hero, Leon the unbeatable champion of Galar, he is someone that is always smiling and supporting everyone in his city, always ready to stand up for the weak and face all kinds of challenges that go his way. In comparison, Gloria is just a skinny brunet with short hair, always inside her oversized red jacket and with zero confidence in her body, there’s no way someone like her could ever become as grandiose as her idol.

These are the thoughts that run through her mind on recess where she stands alone watching the last fight of Leon on her phone, he and Charizard are just so strong, her dream is to one day be able to face him in the Galar Championship, but that seems impossible when you can barely face the people that surround you. As a consequence of that, she spends the rest of the day quietly absorbing the information given by her teachers, writing everything perfectly on her notebook until it’s time to go home.

This leads her to walk home by the end of the day with a sad expression on her face, the walk through the forest is very quiet and lonely as usual, nothing like the group of happy kids that usually leave school together.

"*sigh* Why must I be like this...?" Says in a low tone the poor girl feeling extremely disappointed with herself, and to match her mood the sky too decides to become gray while some drops of rain can be felt.

The walk to her house is still a long one, and she doesn't have any umbrella with herself, with the rain getting stronger a walk on it would most certainly result on her getting all soaked and potentially sick, so what should she do? Looking around puzzled, a big tree in the middle of the forest captures her attention, the leafage seemed to be dense enough that barely any rain seemed to go through, maybe she can use it as shelter.

With that in mind our protagonist runs to the three and sits beneath it while looking sadly at the view, surrounding her stood a bunch of threes with beautiful green foliage almost crystal like because of the rain. She could also witness some Rookidee's playing around on the branches while Grookyes jumped around, they all looked happy among their groups, if only she could be like them...

With her mind entering a depressive state, a raindrop falls right in her eye mimicking a teardrop, even the rain is acknowledging her sadness. Rubbing her eyes to clean the water she misses the movement in the bush in front of her, there stood a little Mimikyu shaking while his costume was completely drenched. He, too, was alone and sad, too anxious to make friends with other Pokémon but equally sad by his lack of skills to create connections.

Keeping his costume would probably debilitate him in the long run, but hating his appearance so much left him with no choice but to keep inside it, awaiting the inevitable cold that awaited him. While the poor creature kept shaking, Gloria ends up acknowledging his presence, they both looked so alike she thought, two creatures completely alone with no where else to go, too afraid to simply exist.

"Achoo!" Sneezes Mimikyu, the poor creature must be so cold thought the kid, she had learned about him in class, Mimikyu are extremely shy and don't leave their costume for anything, if he kept like this he could be in some real trouble, that is particularly concerning since there are so few of them.

Worried about the condition of her lonely companion, Gloria takes off her jacket and decides to walk slowly to where Mimikyu is. Only then, the scared creature acknowledges her and starts to panic a little, the last kids that he saw thought he was ugly and threw rocks at him.

"Please don't be scared, I just want to give you my jacket, I promise not to hurt you." Says the girl softly while slowly walking towards him. "I'll leave it here on the ground, I also have some cookies in my pocket if you're hungry."

Leaving the cloth in the ground she slowly walks back to the three and sits down again, Mimikyu was still very much scared and shaking but gained some courage when the big girl in front of him gave him a smile from far away. Very slowly he makes his way to the jacket and pushes it quickly to the bush, once inside it he curls up in the cloth and takes off his costume. He then proceeds to find the bag of cookies on the pocket and starts to happily eating them, maybe this strange human wasn't so bad after all.

With that the time passed with both creatures each on their corner enjoying each other presence listening to the relaxing sound of the rain, and when the weather started to get better it was time for Gloria to say goodbye to her new companion and make her way to home.

The next day Gloria woke up a little more happy than usual, meeting Mimikyu the other day was really nice, she never had felt so comfortable with someone that isn't her mother, will she ever see him again? She sure hopes so.

While walking to school her eyes kept searching the forest for her companion, but he didn't seem to be anywhere, all she could see was some Caterpie's happily walking around, nothing of the beautiful Pokémon that shared a great time with her. In class too, she couldn't stop thinking about him, spending her time fantasizing about him while making small doodles of him with all sorts of cute costumes. For the first time in a long time, she spent the day smiling and didn't even seem bothered by the people that surrounded her.

By the time the class ended, she was eager to get out and go search for her potential new friend, walking all the way excited back to the three where they had met. When she gets there though, there's no sign of him or her jacket, I mean of course he wouldn't be there, she was being silly by believing they could meet again.

Still she decided to wait a little more, hope is the last thing to die after all, and with that she stayed for an hour hugging her knees with her head lying down on her arms waiting for the animal to come back. Slowly she went back to a sad smile and the gloom of loneliness took over her again, maybe asking for a single friend was too much, maybe she was bound to be alone.

"I guess it's time to go home." Says the brunette with a sad expression while looking at her feet.

Getting ready to get up, Gloria hears a sound from her left and to her surprise there it stood her rain partner, the little Mimikyu slowly dragging the jacket in her direction. She couldn't believe it, he actually came and even brought back the piece of cloth. This must be a dream.

Stopping by her side, the little Pokémon shakingly pushes the jacket all covered in mud in her direction, walking a few steps back right after, afraid of her reaction. Looking him in the eyes, the kid gives him a sweet smile and grabs her coat, it was really nice of him to bring it back.

"Thank you very much, I hope you didn't get sick from yesterday" Says the girl to which he declines with his head. "Awesome." adds the girl, smiling.

"Wait, are this berries?" Asks Gloria, folding the jacket and finding a bunch of berries inside it. "Is this because of the cookies?" To that, he nods vigorously.

"Aww, you didn't have to, but I appreciate it, we can eat them together now." Says the brunette landing some berries on the ground for the Pokémon to take while proceeding to eat some herself.

With that they proceed to both stand beneath the three eating the berries while viewing the other Pokémon playing around, it was a simple act that filled both of them with extremely happiness.  As the day was getting shorter it was time for Gloria to go back but with a promise of coming back the other day.

The next days we’re a little awkward, at first they would both be too still and barely saying anything, too afraid to scare the new friend they had just made. With time, though, Gloria started sharing a bit of herself with the little creature, showing him various videos of Leon defeating the most various challengers. “Isn’t he amazing?! It doesn’t matter how hard the fight is, he always finds a way to win. One day I will be the one to beat him!” Would say, the young lady closing her fists with a great smile. Mimikyu loves seeing her like that, she looks so bright, so much different from the look she would bring when coming from school.

Other times they would sit down under the big tree playing Magic, a card game Gloria would bring. In the beginning, she would easily defeat the costumed fella, but after a week of playing, the little guy quickly mastered the game and started giving her a real fight. “Noooooo! I can’t believe you still had a Primoridal Wurm in your deck, next time I won’t be defeated!” And they would start another game, again and again.

In other occasions they would have to change the funny activities over homework, those moments we’re not as fun to the shy Pokémon since Gloria would be too immersed in her writing to pay him attention. Still, the little guy enjoyed seeing how she didn’t take her eyes from the book and how she would touch her chin every time she stumbled over a tricky part. “Come here Kyu, sorry for not being able to play today, tomorrow's test is really important.” She says while giving him a hug.

Day’s weren’t always okay though, sometimes Gloria would come crying after a kid picked on her for wanting to be champion, in those moments Kyu would simply hug her with all his strength hoping to show her how much he cared. Other day’s would be Kyu’s turn of being hurt over idiot kids that would throw him rocks and call him names, to which Gloria would always be ready to come over, fix his costume and fill him with love. Life might not be perfect, but every little moment that they spent together only brought them closer to the point neither could imagine living without the other.

After another day of playing in the forest with her friend, Gloria burst through the door with a huge smile on her face and her clothes all filled with paint. Throwing her schoolbag to the ground, she runs to her mom with her phone in hand. “Mom you have to look at the pokéballs me and Kyu painted today, oh, and he got his costume all covered in paint I was hoping you could make him a new one?”

"Calm down, tiger, you too need a new costume." Commented the mom, laughing while looking at the state her daughter was in. “But I don’t mind making new clothes for the sweetheart that has made you come home so happy lately.”

“Awesome! But it has to be a Pikachu suit, Kyu really loves looking like him, even though he is so much cuter already.”

“Okay, okay, just get ready to eat, I’m almost done with dinner.” Says the mom mixing the bowl of spaghetti.

After a quick shower and with her Fire type pajama on, Gloria goes down sitting at the wood table in front of her mother, dinner was spaghetti with meatballs her favorite.

“This smells delicious, mom!”

“Thanks, I’m glad you like it.” Thanks the mom while fidgeting her hands. “I actually have something I want to talk with you.”

“Oh” Expresses the girl with her mouth filled with spaghetti. “I’m all ears.”

“Well, remember how you are always talking about how you would love to become a Pokémon trainer in Galar?” Asks the mom, to which the daughter nods in confusion. “Well, I got a job offer to work on the Wooloo farm in Galar by the Chairman Rose. It’s a really great offer, but it’s very sudden, we would have to move in three days and I understand if you don’t want to go, but I thought since you’ve always dreamed of moving there it might be a great opportunity for both? If you don’t want to go, I totally understand.” Says the mom really quick, trying to reassure her daughter she has a say in all this.

Gloria couldn’t believe what her ears we’re hearing, she would be moving to Galar, she would get her chance to become a trainer and join the tournament, she could meet Leon. Oh my god, oh my god, this can’t be real!

“Gloria? What do you think, dear?” Asks the mom, unsure by her daughter's silence.

“Of course I want to go! We’re going to be living in the same town of Leon, too! That’s so amazing!” Excitedly profess, the girl jumping from her sit and running to hug her mom. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Her journey would finally start, but one thing was missing in our protagonist's heart, if she were to go what would happen to her life here in the village?

“Kyu…” Whispers the girl, letting her arms slowly fall from the hug. “I can't leave him behind…”

“You’re talking about your little friend?” Asks the mom concern by the kid's change of attitude. “Why don’t you bring him with you? Every trainer needs a starter Pokémon.” Adds the older woman, smiling.

With those words said, they sat together to eat dinner while having an amazing conversation about the new adventure that awaited them. Alone at night though, Gloria's head couldn’t stop thinking about her best friend, would he accept going with her? Galar is a much bigger city than the village, plus joining the league would be too stressful, would Mimikyu be able to take all that? Would her with her anxiety being so bad? Filled with insecurities, our poor protagonist fell asleep.

The next morning, the soon-to-be trainer woke up with a pain in her chest, she couldn’t stop fearing the idea of him not accepting to come, and then she would have to become alone again in a huge new place.

“I don’t know if I can go through that again…” Whispers the sleepy girl while holding her chest, but the image of her big poster of Leon reminded her that she can’t be a pessimist, she has to stand strong.

Getting up, our hero dresses her Charizard shirt, her typical red jacket and her fire hat. This was a new day, and she would face it like the amazing champion she will become!

Sadly it’s easier said than done and the walk to the forest was the most painful she had, instead of following her idol example of always standing strong and smiling, or protagonist felt small walking very slowly in her direction with her head filled with negative outcomes. The worst part is that for the first time since they met, seeing Kyu under the tree scared her to death, and as she got closer she could feel her hands getting sweaty and her knees shaking.

“Hello Kyu.” Says the girl in what almost sounds like a whisper, sitting by his side in the grass.

Kyu’s costume was all covered with stains of purple, making him even more cute than usual, she was so lucky for having him. I don’t know what to do if you say no…

Kyu on the other hand was starting to get really concerned, his friend is usually always smiling and talking when visiting him, he has never seen her so quiet. Did any of the kids mess with her again? That didn’t matter now, he would make them pay if he ever saw them, but now the most important is being there for her. Walking slowly to her, our little hero hugs Gloria's legs as strongly as he can, hoping that would help a little.

“Thanks, I was needing it.” Says Gloria, grabbing his friend and giving him a proper hug. “It’s just, I have something to tell you and I don’t know if you will still want to be my friend after it.”

What? Not be friends with Gloria anymore? That’s preposterous! He would always be her friend no matter what, there’s nothing she could do to change that. He understands it’s a serious topic though, so he positions himself comfortably in her knees looking in her eyes waiting for the big revelation.

“You know I really like the time we spend together, It’s the best moments of my life and I want to continue to be by your side forever, that’s why I want to ask you to move to Galar with me as my partner.” Says the trainer to be really fast. “I know it’s a big question and that Galar is a big city, but I really would want you to come with me, you don’t even have to fight if you want, I just want my best friend by my side. I understand if you don’t want to go or think I’m being a horrible selfish friend, but just… I want to become a champion with you.” Ends the girl trembling, looking straight in his eyes.

With that question Mimikyu start’s shaking immensely, going to a new place will be really scary, plus Gloria is asking him to fight all those big and strong Pokémon he saw on her phone, would he be able to face such challenge? His head is yelling for him to run away while he can, but one look in at his friend's eyes, and he knows there’s only one way. Ever since that day on the rain he became Gloria's and Gloria became his, they were partners through and through, if she wanted him by her side of course he would be there. He would make her a Champion!

Vigorously nodding his head, Mimikyu runs again to Gloria's bag and grabs a pokéball, the one they had painted together filled with little cute ghosts, and delivers it to his new partner. Finally losing the anxiety that was filling her, the trainer to be starts tearing a little, with him by her side she knew they would conquer the world, this was the beginning of their journey.

Hard-Work

The Struggle of Motivation: It's very common to see people call very high skill individuals talented, though most of them end up not liking this type of compliment because it erases the hours of training they have endured until that point. When we say someone is talented, it usually means that they have a natural aptitude or skill and implicates that they don't have to try to be good. Now talent exists, some people are more prone to learning certain topics quicker than others, but that alone doesn't make the individual, they won't progress much if they don't put the time to sharpen themselves.

Always One Step Behind

It's been a while since I've thought about this little blog of mine, a long time since I've felt the urge to come back and share some of my dumb words with my sweet void. As usual, my life has been pretty hectic, with lots of new things and new experiences, all pretty exciting but at the same time all pretty demoralizing. As you probably know, I've always been a shy and quiet kid, my teens were spent in my room alone playing video games inside the closet. This made me lose a lot of the experience in life one should get in its teenage years, this never bothered me before but lately I'm starting to see some of the consequences.   It's starting to really bother me how little I know compared to my friends and as I get to finally experience the things I missed in my younger years, I noticed how frustrating it is to deal with a world that already knows double of what you know. Going out at night and drinking, getting into my first relationship all these things start...

I Watched Den-noh Coil

Internet, Grief and Depression: I'm a big fan of a site called Anifem , where a bunch of people get together to write and produce podcasts about anime and how they fare within feminist views, everyone is really amazing, and I highly recommend checking them out. Since I found the site somewhere last year I've been going through their backlog, reading and listening to all of their content, and that's what led me to find Den-noh Coil, a show about young kids living in a reality where augmented reality glasses are a thing.
