I Watched Pirates of The Caribbean

Every week usually me and my friends have a movie night where we get together to watch movies and hang out for a bit, the last couple of movies we watched were the saga Pirates of the Caribbean. I had only seen them as a child, barely remembered anything, and one of my friends was watching it for the first time in his life. Overall the first three movies were amazing, funny and exciting, every new addition would leave us with grins on our faces and a huge love for the famous Captain Jack Sparrow. The only thing that I didn't enjoy so much was the fact that the superior ship Jack x Elizabeth wasn't canon, but I'm already used to not getting what I want in this department.

My favorite scene actually got a funny reaction from me, that scene happened in the third movie when Elizabeth betrayed Jack with a kiss and left him there to die. First, I found it kinda hot, but also I loved how it contrasted perfectly with how they impacted each other. Elizabeth always believed that deep inside Jack was a good man, meanwhile Jack always knew that she had what it takes to be a cunning pirate, in the end they were both right. This all happened while being very truthful to their characters, something that can't be said for the fourth entry.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was a huge disappointment, the movie felt overall quite boring and out of character. Jack is a man who loves the sea and himself more than anything, he has never been shown to be a monster, actually helping the others sometimes but never a heroic figure, always putting his safety above everything else. Seeing him putting himself in all kinds of unnecessary situation where he would be in danger over a damsel in distress was very jarring, especially after his last good act cost him his life. The villain also lacked the charm of Barbosa and Davy Jones, all in all the movie felt like a filler episode, so bad that we almost quit watching the next one.

Thankfully my beloved cousin told me that "Dead Men Tell no Tales" was actually pretty great and nothing like its predecessor, so we decided to give it his fair chance, and thank god we did. The movie gets back to delivering the usual Jack we are used to, with a strong villain and a great, adventurous tone. The movie still lacked the great chemistry that the original trio had, but managed to still maintain fresh with a new set of characters while developing some old ones. It presented a great ending to the franchise, if not for a few silly things my brain couldn't stop thinking about.

First, breaking the curse doesn't take the people from the sea, as we witnessed with the villains getting swallowed, so wouldn't Will die drowned in the sea since the Flying Dutchman drives underwater? Talking about our charming boy, why didn't he ever show up to help his son? It just feels weird that he is this new powerful entity in the sea and not once did he sense that something was going down or that his son was in trouble. This also goes for Elizabeth, whose character ended up being a real disappointment, she was such a badass and daring protagonist in the first trilogy, It's hard to believe that she simply accepted that her husband was cursed and didn't try to go look for a way out, or at least join her son on the search for the trident. These are just small things that bugged me, but nothing too serious or important.

In the end, all the movies, except that forsaken fourth entry, are extremely enjoyable and fun. Jack Sparrow won't be leaving my mind so soon, especially the jar of dirt segment, and I'm glad we have these amazing pirate films. Before I go, I would like to wish Johnny Depp all the luck in this troubling time he is going through and that he may recover knowing that he is well-loved.

Hard-Work

The Struggle of Motivation: It's very common to see people call very high skill individuals talented, though most of them end up not liking this type of compliment because it erases the hours of training they have endured until that point. When we say someone is talented, it usually means that they have a natural aptitude or skill and implicates that they don't have to try to be good. Now talent exists, some people are more prone to learning certain topics quicker than others, but that alone doesn't make the individual, they won't progress much if they don't put the time to sharpen themselves.

Always One Step Behind

It's been a while since I've thought about this little blog of mine, a long time since I've felt the urge to come back and share some of my dumb words with my sweet void. As usual, my life has been pretty hectic, with lots of new things and new experiences, all pretty exciting but at the same time all pretty demoralizing. As you probably know, I've always been a shy and quiet kid, my teens were spent in my room alone playing video games inside the closet. This made me lose a lot of the experience in life one should get in its teenage years, this never bothered me before but lately I'm starting to see some of the consequences.   It's starting to really bother me how little I know compared to my friends and as I get to finally experience the things I missed in my younger years, I noticed how frustrating it is to deal with a world that already knows double of what you know. Going out at night and drinking, getting into my first relationship all these things start...

I Watched Den-noh Coil

Internet, Grief and Depression: I'm a big fan of a site called Anifem , where a bunch of people get together to write and produce podcasts about anime and how they fare within feminist views, everyone is really amazing, and I highly recommend checking them out. Since I found the site somewhere last year I've been going through their backlog, reading and listening to all of their content, and that's what led me to find Den-noh Coil, a show about young kids living in a reality where augmented reality glasses are a thing.
