I Watched The Last Jedi

So since sometime last year, with so many new shows of Star Wars getting out and with me never seeing anything apart from the main movies. I made the decision to watch everything Star Wars in the release date order.

So far this has turned out to be an amazing decision. Not only have I rewatched some of my favorite movies, I've also had the chance to see shows like Clone Wars and Rebels that quickly became my favorite pieces in the franchise, presenting me to new interesting and amazing new characters, while further exploring old ones.

The movie Rogue One also surprised me, holding strong as a new favorite that brought a whole new meaning to the importance and impact of the first Death Star mission in the first film.

Now while watching some lego and animated shorts in between, I'm finally revisiting the controversial sequels. Like The Force Awakens that was an okay movie, added new cool characters but stood too close to the formula of Episode 1.

But what I want to talk about more is The Last Jedi, the second movie in this trilogy and the last one I watched. This one was heavily criticized for ruining Luke's character bringing heavy debates among the community. My general opinion of it, it's that it has interesting themes to be explored but with a weak and sometimes boring execution.

Getting into the big dilemma of the start, let's talk about Luke Skywalker and the loss of his hope. I'm someone that likes dramatic and sad stories where heroes who shine brightly fall down to the deepest bottom and lose their spark. So this idea of Luke opposing the Jedi and seeing himself unworthy immediately captivated me.

However I feel like the reasons presented could be better. After watching Clone Wars it's pretty obvious that the Jedi order, even if good, was still a flawed one that indirectly led to the downfall of the chosen one. So seeing Luke learning about their flaws and how they could have saved his father, would be a more interesting way for him to deny the Jedi and stop seeing them as perfect heroes, questioning his role in the revitalization of this organization.

This would play perfectly with his accident with Kylo Ren, where upon seeing a force so alike to Vader, our hero, starts questioning if he himself could do better and if it wouldn't be safer to the world to stop it before it could flourish.

Obviously there's some debate of whether this would be in character for Luke, but I feel like after saving the galaxy and hoping things will finally get better, to see that evil keeps prospering as if nothing changed would break anyone's spirit.

Moving now to Kylo Ren, I must say I feel like his fall to the dark side is childish and superfluous. This might be because of the nature of the movies of leaving many things untold, but with simply what we have on hands he just didn't have that much of a good reason to be this horrible, almost making it hard to sympathize with him when Rey so desperately asks us to.

To be fair though, I had similar feelings to Anakin on the prequels, that we're quickly resolved with the deepness that Clone Wars gave to his character and conflicts. So maybe someday we will have a version for the sequels that further explores the manipulation Snoke did on Ben and his struggles with the dark side.

Now to end my thread of thoughts, I just wanna mention something that went through my mind. The movie presents Luke as the last jedi, overlooking many potential force users that exist in the galaxy. Rey isn't the only one around even if she seems to be the most prodigy.

As seen in Rebels with Ezra and Fallen Order with Cal, there's still some Jedi survivors that had their own generation of padawans, plus Ahsoka still breathing. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bigger list of unknown fighters around the galaxy.

So no, Luke isn't the last jedi, but I like to think that he is the last jedi that is bound by the old traditions. That with the fire of those old texts he symbolizes the needed change the Jedi need to suffer to prosper and not allow for another Vader and Kylo to be born.

And this is the end of my little rumbling, obviously my memory is flawed and you might have some different views of the movie. Feel free to share and please have a nice day and may the force be with you. ^-^

Hard-Work

The Struggle of Motivation: It's very common to see people call very high skill individuals talented, though most of them end up not liking this type of compliment because it erases the hours of training they have endured until that point. When we say someone is talented, it usually means that they have a natural aptitude or skill and implicates that they don't have to try to be good. Now talent exists, some people are more prone to learning certain topics quicker than others, but that alone doesn't make the individual, they won't progress much if they don't put the time to sharpen themselves.

Always One Step Behind

It's been a while since I've thought about this little blog of mine, a long time since I've felt the urge to come back and share some of my dumb words with my sweet void. As usual, my life has been pretty hectic, with lots of new things and new experiences, all pretty exciting but at the same time all pretty demoralizing. As you probably know, I've always been a shy and quiet kid, my teens were spent in my room alone playing video games inside the closet. This made me lose a lot of the experience in life one should get in its teenage years, this never bothered me before but lately I'm starting to see some of the consequences.   It's starting to really bother me how little I know compared to my friends and as I get to finally experience the things I missed in my younger years, I noticed how frustrating it is to deal with a world that already knows double of what you know. Going out at night and drinking, getting into my first relationship all these things start...

I Watched Den-noh Coil

Internet, Grief and Depression: I'm a big fan of a site called Anifem , where a bunch of people get together to write and produce podcasts about anime and how they fare within feminist views, everyone is really amazing, and I highly recommend checking them out. Since I found the site somewhere last year I've been going through their backlog, reading and listening to all of their content, and that's what led me to find Den-noh Coil, a show about young kids living in a reality where augmented reality glasses are a thing.
